About Richard

Photographer and artist Richard S. Chow, based in Los Angeles, is celebrated for his fine art, documentary, and innovative photo-based creations. 

With a studio in the vibrant Little Tokyo neighborhood of downtown LA, Richard has presented solo exhibitions at prestigious venues, including the Museum of Art and History (MOAH) Lancaster, Orange Coast College, Neutra Museum & Gallery, Phantom Gallery, and Metro 417 Gallery. In 2024, he will feature a solo show at Gallery 825 (LAAA) in West Hollywood, CA.

Richard has participated in over 100 juried group exhibits, with notable recent displays at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, Florida Museum of Photographic Arts (FMoPA), Griffin Museum in Boston, bG gallery, Gallery 825, Los Angeles Center of Photography, Open Mind Art Space, LA Art Show, Makery Gallery, and Bergamot Station galleries. He has earned recognition in the Lucie Foundation’s International Photography Awards (IPA) for six consecutive years (2013–2018) and again in 2020. His work was also featured in the monograph LACMA Jazz 25th Anniversary, published by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

His artwork is included in various private and public collections, such as the American Hotel and the Los Angeles Public Library Foundation. In addition to independently publishing two books, Richard continues to expand his artistic reach. He actively contributes to the art community as a curator, portfolio reviewer, educator, and art grant reviewer for the California Arts Council, a U.S. State agency. He also serves as co-producer and curator of Open Show LA since 2018, an initiative providing a platform for visual artists to present their work. In 2024, he founded the 3C Gallery collective.
